Old Churches in Armenia

Probably you have heard about the Armenian architecture of churches. Being the first country to adopt Christianity as a state religion in 301, Armenians started to build churches that became a cultural heritage for the later coming generations.
This is the reason why the oldest churches in the world are probably located in the Armenian highland. It will require a lot of time from you to investigate the Armenian churches in Armenia. However, you’ll surely miss some of them cause there are innumerable churches in this state and some of them are hidden for humanity.
It’s impossible to classify the Armenian churches. Yet, I try to find out the old churches in Armenia.
1. Etchmiadzin Cathedral
The main and the most important center of the Armenian Apostolic church is Holy Etchmiadzin. This church was built just after the adoption of Christianity. They say that the Etchmiadzin Cathedral was founded early in the 4th century (301–303).
Etchmiadzin is considered to be the oldest Christian church, the oldest church in Europe, and the oldest church in the world. It’s located in the city Etchmiadzin in the Armavir province. The Armenian mother church is the home of the Armenian priest.
In 2001, the first church in the world was included in the UNESCO world heritage.
